Expressionism, moving
A legible armature, an evenly pitched lattice of thin rules crossed by a run of flat saturated bands, pushed off its nominal positions by a smooth displacement field with a single peak. Grey rules mark where every element should have stood; the swollen black and red bars are where it went. A bar turns red where the push is hardest, and the ruler along the bottom states the nominal pitch plainly, outside the field, so the order the rest of the picture departs from is on the page rather than merely implied. One full-strength flat lies over the part of the field the push never reaches, its straight edge a nominal rule of the lattice and its curved edge the outer isoline of the pressure, so the colour and the deformation answer the same gradient from opposite ends.
A displacement is a difference between two states, and a still can only show the second one. Moving, the locus travels: the pressure passes through the lattice, so a bar is seen leaving its ghost and coming back to it, and the red stops being a region of the picture and becomes a moment in a bar's life. The push kicks on the beat, so the lattice is struck rather than only leaned on.
The locus is held well inside the frame by construction, which is the constraint the still solved once with a search: the red has to clear every edge, or the event the picture is about happens off the page.
Running in your browser at 120 beats a minute. A seed decides the piece's fixed choices, the ones its setup makes once, so Generate gives a new version of the same program rather than a new moment of this one; the time and the beat are handed in separately, which is why the same seed always draws the same frame at the same moment. /art/vj supplies a tempo you set, tap, or let it hear.
