Its bands are cut into courses that repeat a motif briefly, then switch: slanted hatching, dentils, stud rows, dashes, triangular teeth, fine ruling. The grey field outside is worked block by block, ruled, dotted, gridded, nested. Where the wall breaks, that field pushes through and keeps going.
